In Delta State, suspected armed robbers have taken control of several stretches of the Sapele-Benin road. They physically immobilize the target vehicles with sharp objects before attacking the occupants.
On Thursday morning, it was learned that a number of drivers had become the victims of the alleged highway robbers.
Witnesses claimed that after deactivating the target vehicle’s tires, the thugs went inside and attacked the passengers, stealing belongings in the process.
A furious argument between the suspects and the victim, who was driving a Toyota Sienna SUV with the license plate Delta WWR243PR, broke out near Jesse Junction shortly after one of his car’s tires was struck by a sharp object the suspects threw at it while it was moving.
A truck that was reportedly forcibly demobilized earlier in the day by the thugs was also seen at the location.
Most of the stranded commuters, who requested anonymity when contacted, offered thanks to God that the incident did not occur at night or in the early hours of the morning.
As of the time this report was filed, it was impossible to contact Bright Edafe, the state police’s public relations officer, for comments on the incident.
