A former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has accused the ruling party of failing to deliver its campaign promises to Nigerians. Lukman stated that the APC’s failures have surpassed those of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was ousted in 2015.
In a press release issued in Abuja on Sunday, Lukman expressed concern over the current state of affairs in the country. He criticized the APC for failing to fight corruption and instead allowing it to thrive.
“What were the failings of the PDP? The failings of the PDP are reflected in the same way today’s challenges are manifesting. If the truth is to be told, whatever the failings of the PDP in 2015, it was less grievous than what it has become under APC in 2024,” Lukman noted.
Lukman questioned the future of democracy in Nigeria and whether it could produce leaders responsive to national challenges such as poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and inflation. He acknowledged the APC’s initial popularity due to the PDP’s failings but argued that the APC has now become worse.
Lukman stressed that no APC leader, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, should distance themselves from the failures of the Buhari era. He argued that the APC failed to provide the collective leadership needed to manage government machinery effectively, resulting in elected leaders becoming emperors and state machinery being captured to serve the interests of elected representatives.
