Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended the Lagos Election Petition Tribunal for its verdict in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The tribunal upheld Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the March 18, 2023 election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and dismissed two petitions filed by his main challengers, Dr. Olajide Adediran of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the tribunal’s judgment as “well thought-out and detailed,” emphasizing that it further affirms that his election was the choice of the people. He also praised the judiciary for its commitment to principles of fairness and justice.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his gratitude to the judges for their meticulous approach to explaining the reasons behind their verdicts and for upholding the principles of fairness and justice in their decisions. He stressed that the judgment re-energized his administration’s commitment to delivering on its campaign promises to the people of Lagos State.
Sanwo-Olu extended an olive branch to his political opponents, Dr. Olajide Adediran and Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, urging them to accept the tribunal’s verdict in good faith and display the spirit of sportsmanship. He invited them to collaborate with his administration if they share the same passion and commitment to serving the people of Lagos.
The Governor announced that the State Government would not celebrate the tribunal’s judgment but would instead focus on the responsibilities of governance. He stated that the APC or any political party was free to organize events to mark the victory in court. Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to delivering quality governance and fulfilling its obligations to the people of Lagos State.
