Prince Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the previous election, has expressed his view that it is premature to criticize the policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Speaking on Arise Television, Adebayo addressed the ongoing economic crisis resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies, which has caused hardship for Nigerians.
The recent increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as fuel, has sparked widespread anger across the country. The surge in fuel prices, reaching N620 from N537 in the nation’s capital and other regions, has led to a sharp rise in the cost of essential goods and services.
In response to the public outcry over the price hike, Adebayo noted that Tinubu has yet to unveil his own policies, which could potentially introduce further complications. He stated that the measures currently being implemented by the president are largely based on pre-existing circumstances, emphasizing that Tinubu’s distinct policies have yet to be unveiled.
Adebayo stated, “It is too early to lament now because the real problem has not yet emerged. However, when these problems arise, we should address them as a unified country, rather than viewing them through a political lens.” He further commented that President Tinubu is implementing certain legacy measures based on the existing conditions. Adebayo expressed his desire to see Tinubu’s expertise in governing and managing a government, particularly when the cabinet is formed and decision-making processes commence.
In conclusion, Adebayo urged patience and emphasized the need to address challenges as a nation, emphasizing that the true impact of President Tinubu’s policies is yet to be fully revealed.
