soldiers from the 192 Battalion, who are part of the 81 Division, successfully stopped a truck filled with smuggled ammunition. This operation happened when the troops were conducting a stop-and-search on the Ajilete-Owode Road in Yewa North LGA of Ogun State. They bravely intercepted a syndicate that was trying to transport the ammunition into Anambra State.
The spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, informed reporters in Abuja on Monday that the soldiers discovered illegal ammunition in a truck with the registration number ENU 697 XY. The truck was loaded with 720 packets of Red Star Cartridges, each containing 25 cartridges of 12 calibre. In total, they seized 18,000 cartridges. Additionally, they confiscated 250 packets of live (black) cartridges, with 10 packets in each, amounting to 2,500 cartridges of the same calibre.
Nwachukwu also mentioned that the individuals involved in the case, namely Mr. Eric Seworvor, a Ghanaian, and the driver, Mr. Lukman Sani, have been apprehended and are currently assisting with the ongoing investigation. “Based on initial findings, it has been discovered that the hidden ammunition was brought into the country from Mali through the Idiroko International Border, using a truck that appeared to be empty.”
