Abuja, Nigeria – In a remarkable turn of events, the Nigerian Senate has confirmed the Kaduna State nominee, Abbas Balarabe, who collapsed during his screening on Wednesday. The Senate also confirmed the appointments of Dr. Jamila Ibrahaim as Minister of Youths and Ayodele Olawande as Minister of State for Youths.
The incident took place during Balarabe’s screening, the second nominee to undergo questioning, following Dr. Jamila Ibrahaim. Approximately 15 minutes into his screening at the Senate plenary, while Senator Sunday Katung was discussing Balarabe’s administrative background, the nominee suddenly fainted while still on the podium.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio immediately called for assistance, shouting, “Bring water and sugar. Call Dr. Musa.” Journalists and cameramen were instructed to stop filming and leave the Senate chamber.
Balarabe was subsequently taken to the National Assembly clinic, where he received medical attention. After about a 45-minute break, the Senate resumed its proceedings and went on to confirm all three nominees.
President Bola Tinubu had submitted the names of the nominees to the Senate, and their appointments were confirmed after the incident was addressed.
