The Senate has postponed its decision on approving the state of emergency in Rivers State, opting to revisit the matter on Thursday. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved for the delay, a motion supported by Minority Leader Abba Moro and approved by the majority.
The motion, which was the first agenda item, was halted before any debate. Lawmakers acknowledged the ongoing political crisis in Rivers, stating that it has left the state in a standstill, preventing residents from enjoying good governance.
President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency on Tuesday, citing escalating tensions, but the Senate now seeks more time before making a final decision.
