The Nigerian Senate has dismissed allegations by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan that there are plans to arrest her upon her return from the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) event in New York. Senate spokesperson Adeyemi Adaramodu clarified on Monday that neither Senate President Godswill Akpabio nor the legislative body has any involvement in such claims.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had accused Akpabio of sending officials to remove her from the United Nations premises and alleged that an arrest awaited her in Abuja. However, Adaramodu dismissed the claims, stating that the Senate had moved on from her issues and suggesting that she was facing the consequences of her remarks at the IPU event.
“If she’s being haunted by her unguarded statements against Nigeria in New York, she should spare the Senate from her troubles,” Adaramodu said. Meanwhile, Akpoti-Uduaghan maintains that she legitimately registered for the IPU event and insists that an attempt was made to forcibly remove her from the UN premises.
