Senate President Akpabio Addresses Rumors of Presidential Jet Purchase

Senate President Godswill Akpabio clarified on Thursday that the Senate is committed to approving measures that benefit the Nigerian people and support the duties of President Bola Tinubu. He addressed speculations regarding the purchase of a presidential jet, stating that no such request is currently before the lawmakers.

During the plenary session, Akpabio emphasized that reports suggesting an imminent purchase are merely anticipatory blackmail. He reaffirmed the Senate’s dedication to the well-being of both the President and the Nigerian populace, indicating that they would approve necessary repairs or replacements for presidential assets if required.

“We care about the president and we care about the Nigerian people. We will approve things that will benefit the Nigerian people,” Akpabio stated. He further highlighted the importance of the President’s safety, referencing incidents involving faulty jets leading to the deaths of world leaders.

Akpabio dismissed the rumors as unfounded, explaining that any future request for a presidential jet would be considered based on its necessity. He reassured that the Senate would responsibly evaluate such matters, putting the governance and interests of the country first.

Despite the controversy, Akpabio maintained that the Senate remains open to considering essential proposals for the President’s operational needs. He urged the public to disregard the speculative reports, reiterating that the Senate’s primary focus is on the nation’s welfare.
