Senator Abbo Vows Prosecution for Mohbad Indictments

Senator Ishaku Abbo, who represents Adamawa State North Senatorial District, has assured that anyone found guilty as a result of the police investigation into the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, will face prosecution.

Mohbad, a former artist under the Marlians record label headed by Afeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, passed away on September 12, 2023.

On Thursday, Senator Abbo paid a condolence visit to Mohbad’s family, accompanied by Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh.

As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Entertainment Economy, Senator Abbo mentioned that the Senate would examine the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. He further pledged to lead efforts for the establishment of a Creative Economy Commission.

He noted that the Senate had already passed a bill related to this matter, which has received presidential support. The bill’s purpose is to create funds for victims of incidents like the EndSARS protests, victims of violence, or extremism.

Senator Abbo stated, “I’m here to console the family. When we heard of your son’s death and the controversies that appeared on social media, we felt it was important that we come here to console your family.”

He emphasized that nobody is above the law and pointed out that the Acting Inspector General of Police had ordered an investigation into the matter. Senator Abbo assured that the Nigeria Police would prosecute anyone found guilty in connection with Mohbad’s death.

He also stressed the importance of equality and encouraged the bereaved mother not to fear any intimidation, stating, “No man should live in fear. We are all free people.”

Furthermore, Senator Abbo highlighted the public’s call for a commission within the creative industry to resolve disputes between record labels and their signees.

It was reported earlier that the Lagos State Police Command had confirmed the exhumation of Mohbad’s corpse and the arrest of the nurse who allegedly administered an injection to the deceased singer.
