Senator Sumaila Kawu, representing Kano South, has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of introducing corruption into the National Assembly during his tenure. This comes after Obasanjo recently criticized lawmakers for setting their own salaries and allowances amid Nigeria’s economic challenges.
In a televised interview, Senator Kawu claimed that Obasanjo’s government corrupted some members of the National Assembly in an attempt to amend the Constitution and allow Obasanjo a third term in office. Kawu stated that he has evidence to support his accusations, further fueling the debate over lawmakers’ earnings and corruption in government.
