Delta State, Nigeria – The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has announced his intention to appeal the judgment of the Election Petitions Tribunal, which upheld the election victory of Sheriff Oborevwori as the governor of the state.
In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Sunny Areh, immediately following the tribunal’s decision, Senator Omo-Agege expressed his dissatisfaction with the ruling and pointed out what he believes to be significant flaws in the March 18, 2023, governorship election.
“The tribunal failed to reckon with the fundamental flaws in the March 18, 2023, governorship election that mortally rendered the declaration of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner untenable,” Omo-Agege stated.
He went on to emphasize that the tribunal appeared to have operated under challenging circumstances and overlooked substantial evidence presented to question the validity of the votes as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
While acknowledging his respect for the tribunal’s decision, Omo-Agege asserted, “I have no doubt that these flaws which the Tribunal failed to address will be dispassionately evaluated at the Court of Appeal.”
The statement concluded with Omo-Agege announcing that he has instructed his legal team to proceed immediately to the Court of Appeal to continue the legal battle in his quest to uphold the sanctity of the people’s vote.
In the tribunal’s judgment, the three-member panel, led by Justice C.H. Ahuchaogu, affirmed Sheriff Oborevwori’s return as the winner of the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial election in Delta State.
