Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced a public holiday on Monday, July 8, 2024, in observance of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1446AH. The announcement, made by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, recognizes the significance of this occasion for the Muslim community in the state. Oyelade emphasized that the holiday marks Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD, and serves as a time for reflection, prayer, and community unity.

He highlighted the importance of embracing the principles of Hijrah, which emphasize solidarity and brotherhood. The state government aims to foster a sense of reverence and togetherness among its diverse population through this observance.
In related news, the Oyo State government has opened a recruitment portal for primary school teachers, as part of Governor Makinde’s initiative to reduce unemployment. Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), announced that the application process for 7,000 teaching positions and 100 caregiver roles will run from June 25 to July 9, 2024.
