Sharia court imprisons worker for stealing N8,500 ‘ponmo’

Abdulwahab Yusuf, 23, was charged on Tuesday in a Kano sharia court for allegedly stealing cow skin (ponmo) worth N8,500.
Yusuf, who resides in the state’s Tukuntawa Quarters region, has been charged with stealing.
The court’s Umar Lawal Abubakar issued an order remanding the guilty pleader to a jail or prison.

The case was put on hold until a summary trial on August 22 by Lawal-Abubakar.
Inspector Abdullahi Wada, the prosecution’s attorney, had informed the court that the complainant, Fathiu Auwal, who also resides in Tukuntawa Quarters, reported the incident to the fagge police station in Kano on August 5.
She claimed the accused broke into her shop and took the cow skin.
