Award-winning Nigerian singer, Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, recently shared some insights into her early days as a gospel artiste. She revealed that during that period, she used to receive meager payment ranging from N5,000 to N10,000 as performance fees. The highest amount she ever earned at that time was N70,000, which she considered a significant achievement. Despite the modest earnings, Simi diligently tithed 10% of her income.
During her appearance on MTV Base Africa’s Official Naija Top 10, Simi disclosed that she frequently performed in various churches but struggled to make enough money to cover studio sessions and promotional activities. The financial challenges led her to sign with a record label that she deeply regrets to this day.
Ultimately, Simi transitioned to secular music, leaving the gospel music industry behind due to the difficulties she encountered and the limited financial opportunities it offered.
