The Kogi State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially called for the cancellation of the results from five Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the November 11 governorship election. The SDP made this demand at the gubernatorial election collation center, submitting a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The SDP’s collation agent, David Edibu, presented the petition, requesting the cancellation of results in Okene, Okehi, Ogori Magongo, Adavi, and Ajaokuta LGAs, as well as some parts of Lokoja. The party alleged corrupt practices, vote-buying, over-voting, and claimed that their agents were not allowed to approach the polling units in these LGAs.
Professor Johnson Urame, the state Returning Officer, received the petitions on behalf of INEC and assured the SDP that the petition would be reviewed.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed support for the SDP’s petition, emphasizing the alarming number of malpractices in the specified LGAs. Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) responded, stating that the PDP cannot blame anyone for not bringing agents to the polling units. The call for the cancellation of results adds further complexity to the already contentious Kogi State governorship election.
