Human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has alleged that the Nigeria Police Force plans to detain him following his criticism of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over his extended tenure. Sowore, who arrived at the Force Intelligence Headquarters in Abuja on Monday morning, honored an invitation after accusing officers at a Lagos checkpoint of extortion in a viral video.
During the session, the police reportedly accused him of cyberstalking, resisting public officers, and disobedience to lawful orders, but Sowore dismissed the allegations as baseless. In a Facebook post, he revealed that the interrogation relied on “rehashed information” from the internet and lacked any defined crime. He refused to provide a written statement, questioning the legitimacy of the claims.
Sowore further alleged that the police intended to transfer him to Lagos for what he described as a “kangaroo trial” but stated his readiness to face any consequences. Reaffirming his stance, he criticized the Inspector-General’s tenure extension, calling it illegal, and pledged to continue the fight for justice, declaring, “#RevolutionNow.”
