Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticized President Bola Tinubu for acquiring a new presidential jet amid Nigeria’s ongoing economic struggles. The Tinubu administration unveiled the new Airbus A330 on Monday, which replaced a 19-year-old Boeing B737-700(BBJ) purchased during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure.
In a series of posts on his X handle, Sowore condemned the spending, accusing Tinubu of prioritizing personal luxury over the welfare of Nigerians. He highlighted the president’s purchase of a yacht, bulletproof Escalade, and a mansion for the Vice President, all within the first year of his presidency, while the country faces significant economic challenges.
Sowore further criticized Nigerian leaders for focusing on their interests rather than addressing the nation’s pressing issues. He pointed out that Tinubu’s actions demonstrate a lack of concern for the suffering of the people, as evidenced by the recent protest against economic hardship and bad governance across the country.
