Outspoken human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has drawn parallels between President Bola Tinubu and his predecessor, ex-President Muhammadu Buhari. Sowore’s comments came in response to being denied a meeting with Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at the Department of State Services Headquarters in Abuja.
Sowore expressed his frustration on Thursday, revealing that he had been legally invited by Kanu, but his attempts to meet the detained leader were thwarted. This marked the second instance where Sowore was denied access to Kanu since his controversial apprehension in Kenya.
In a Facebook post, Sowore shared his experience, stating, “#FreeNnamdiKanuNow. I spent several hours at the @OfficialDSSNG headquarters in Abuja. I was invited by Onyedu @MaziNnamdiKanu to pay him a visit in custody. However, after hours of confusion, the DSS informed me that I couldn’t see him today.”
He continued, “This is the second time I am being denied a legally ordered visitation to Mazi since his unlawful abduction from Kenya. The Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu regime continues to display intolerance toward lawful calls for self-determination. Tinubu is not different from Muhammadu Buhari. #RevolutionNow.”
The ongoing situation involving Nnamdi Kanu and the Nigerian government has garnered significant attention. Kanu, who was recently cleared by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, has reportedly stated that he will not beg for his release. His lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, expressed concern over Kanu’s detention conditions and requested an inspection of the detention center by a magistrate appointed by the Chief Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
