Former House of Reps Minority Leader, Farouk Aliyu, has told Nigerians to stop fighting over religion and ethnicity, saying politicians only bring up these issues when they lose power. Speaking on AIT, he said ordinary people should unite instead of hating each other over political matters.
Aliyu, a top APC member, explained that political elites don’t fight themselves no matter their tribe or religion. He said many of those now accusing President Tinubu of tribalism were the same people who supported the Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 election. According to him, “When politicians win, they keep quiet. But when they lose, they start shouting about religion and tribe.”

He advised Nigerians, especially the poor, not to be used by politicians to cause division. “We, the elites, don’t fight. So why should you fight your neighbor because he’s Igbo, Hausa, Christian, or Muslim?” he asked. He reminded citizens that many political fights are just about power and not about the people.
