Young Barnabas Ishaya hasn’t really processed losing one of his hands all of a sudden. On Monday, October 2, 2023, early in the morning, armed robbers, numbering about five, forced entry into his off-campus room in Minna’s Tayi Area and severed his left hand in order to steal from him.
Along with taking his mobile phone and torchlight, the robbers also injured his right hand and head with a cutlass.
The boarding school was transferred from Mararaban-Dandaudu in Munya Local Government Area as a result of persistent banditry attacks on communities in Munya LGA and neighboring Shiroro LGA. The 17-year-old is a student there in the second grade.
Many parents who had no family in Minna due to the move were compelled to rent homes so that their children may continue their education.
On his medical bed at the IBB Specialist Medical Minna, Barbanas told reporters that the burglars had broken into their property at around 2 a.m. on Monday.
“I didn’t follow them. I attempted to use my torchlight to pick up the door when they pushed it open so I could identify them. One of them immediately severed my hand. My head and right hand also suffered injuries. To me, it felt like a dream. They left with both my flashlight and my cell phone.
