Lagos, October 18, 2023 — Head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, revealed that his players have been instrumental in persuading him to continue in his role, expressing their unwavering confidence in their collective ability to secure victory in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Earlier this summer, the Portuguese coach willingly accepted a reduction in his salary to extend his tenure with the Super Eagles. At the age of 63, Peseiro is set to lead the three-time African Champions to the 2023 AFCON, which will be held in Cote d’Ivoire in January.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Peseiro stated, “The players pushed me to stay because they believe we can win (the AFCON). We can win it. The players know it. They come with the same energy, the same belief, to fight for the Super Eagles.”
The Super Eagles have been placed in Group A alongside the tournament hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, as well as Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau. As the anticipation for the 2023 AFCON continues to build, Nigerian football fans eagerly await the team’s performance and their quest for another championship.
