The Taraba State House of Assembly has achieved a historic milestone by clearing 21 commissioner-nominees, with 6 of them being females. This marks the highest number of female nominees in the history of the state.
Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Honourable Nelson Len, spoke to the press following the session, expressing satisfaction with the caliber of the nominees. He highlighted that all the nominees, who were put forward by State Governor Dr. Kefas Agbu, successfully went through the screening process and received clearance from the House.
Len also mentioned that it was the first time nominees were presented with their portfolios attached, facilitating a more efficient and effective screening process. The House took its time in scrutinizing each nominee, dedicating two days to ensure no mistakes were made. Recognizing the critical stage of development Taraba State is in, Len emphasized the importance of placing the right individuals in the appropriate positions to bring about the much-needed transformation.
Among the notable nominees are Prof. Nicholas Oliver Namessan, Mr. George Peter, Mr. Gideon Samuel Nonso, Dr. Augustina Godwin, Engr. Naomi Tanko Agbu, and Mrs. Aishat Adul-Azzez K. Barde. The list also includes individuals such as Dr. Sarah Enoch Adi, Hon. Joseph Titus Nagombe, Dr. Bodia Gbansheya Buma, Mrs. Zainabu Usman Jalingo, Yakubu Maikasuwa (SAN), and Mr. Habu James Philip.
Completing the list are Comrade Julius Peter, Hon. Saviour Badzoilig Noku, Dr. Philister Ibrahim PhD Musa, Mrs. Mary Sinjen, Mr. Daniel Ishaya, Comrade Noseh Luka, Mr. Joseph Joshua, Mr. Usman Muslim Abdullahi, and Mr. Yakubu S. Yakubu.
The successful clearance of these nominees reflects Taraba State’s commitment to gender inclusivity and the selection of capable individuals to contribute to the state’s progress and development.
