A Kano State National and State House of Assembly Election tribunal has ruled against the election of Murtar Yerima, the House of Representatives member representing Tarauni Federal Constituency. The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice L P Chima, declared the election invalid due to the forgery of the primary school certificate presented by Yerima to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The tribunal’s decision was based on the confirmation from Hausawa Primary School, Kano, that the certificate presented by Yerima was not found in their records. The ruling supported the case brought forth by Hafizu Kawu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who had sought to nullify the victory of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) member based on the alleged forgery.
The victory of Murtar Yerima in the February 25th elections for Tarauni Federal Constituency, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, has been overturned by the tribunal’s judgment.
