A 17-year-old student, Samuel Onyeme, was reportedly attacked and confined in a dog cage after visiting his classmate, Anastasia Celestine, in Asaba, Delta State. According to his mother, Samuel was discussing with Anastasia outside her home when her father and two brothers allegedly assaulted him, dragged him into their compound, and locked him in the cage, causing serious injuries.
Samuel’s mother, Mrs. Onyeme, explained that she was tricked into coming to the scene but was initially prevented from seeing her son. Samuel’s siblings sought help, and with support from a family friend and a human rights organization, police arrived around 10:00 pm to rescue him. Mrs. Onyeme’s daughter was also reportedly assaulted when she tried to intervene.
A petition led by rights advocate Victor Ojei has been filed, urging legal action against the Celestine family for alleged assault, unlawful detention, and attempted murder. Samuel is currently receiving medical care for injuries and psychological trauma at Asaba Specialist Hospital.
