In a shocking incident in Rumuiprikon, Rivers State, a middle-aged man named Patrick Essien has been apprehended by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly stabbing his landlord. The altercation took place in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area on Monday.
Reports suggest that the conflict arose when the landlord, identified as Iheanyichukwu America, intervened to rescue Essien’s wife from a confrontation where she was purportedly being mistreated.
According to Chioma, the landlord’s wife, “Essien tried to drag the wife to go inside with him, but my husband said he would not allow him, and that the woman would not sleep in their house due to the situation.” Consequently, the woman was moved to the landlord’s family house, with the intention of addressing the matter the next day.
In a disturbing turn of events, Essien allegedly attacked the landlord later that night while attempting to check if his wife was at the landlord’s residence.
Gladys Bardey, the landlord’s elder sister, condemned the tenant’s actions as an attempted murder and urged that the case be taken to court to ensure justice for her brother.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and Essien’s arrest. She revealed that the landlord was currently receiving medical treatment in the hospital, while investigations are ongoing.
This incident highlights the importance of resolving conflicts through peaceful means and underlines the gravity of violence within the community.
