The assault case against Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti was delayed on Monday due to the absence of Magistrate Adeola Olatubosun of the Sabo-Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.
Although Olatubosun was not there, Kuti and his attorney were present in court along with the prosecution team.
On September 27, the case’s proceedings will resume.
Remember that on May 16, when the police brought Kuti before the court and accused him of assaulting a police officer on May 13, on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, the case was earlier postponed until July 3 in order to await the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) of Lagos State’s advice.
The police claimed that Kuti intentionally blocked a moving police car while driving dangerously on the bridge before slapping an inspector.
As a result, Magistrate Olatubosun ruled that Kuti would remain in custody for 48 hours, but that at the conclusion of that time, the singer would be allowed to post bail in the amount of N1m with two sureties in the same amount.
