Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has raised concerns about the music industry’s long-standing exploitation of the church, stating that for nearly five decades, the church has been a stepping stone for many who eventually abandon their spiritual roots. In a viral message to his congregation, he lamented that countless musicians began their journeys in the church choir but later transitioned into secular music, using the church as a platform for fame and financial gain.
He warned that many of these individuals, once influenced by the world, return with attitudes and ideologies that weaken the faith of others. According to him, their poetic expressions may sound spiritual, but their hearts are far from the message of Christ. He urged pastors to be vigilant, emphasizing that the church must no longer entrust its sacred ministry to those whose intentions are driven by personal ambition rather than a calling to serve.
Oyakhilome expressed deep concern over how easily the enemy infiltrates through music, subtly shifting priorities from ministry to monetary gain. He stressed that once musicians absorb the secular spirit, they return with a dangerous influence that corrupts others. In his final admonition, he warned pastors to guard the music ministry, ensuring it remains a channel for divine worship rather than a stage for self-promotion.
