Renowned Nigerian musician, Stanley Omah Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has shared his personal experience of how the abrupt surge in fame had a significant impact on his mental well-being.
During a recent interview with media personality Adesope Olajide on the Afrobeats Podcast, Omah Lay opened up about the initial challenges he faced when thrust into the spotlight and how it affected his mental state. He disclosed:
“At first I struggled, and it put me in a bad mental state because I was still trying to learn my ways. However, with time, I got comfortable and learned that I should move at my own pace.”
Omah Lay went on to explain that as he became more comfortable with his newfound fame and success, he began to develop mental resilience, which allowed him to enjoy his life more fully.
He emphasized the importance of being true to oneself and not rushing the process, stating, “As soon as I realised that, I became much stronger and began to enjoy my life more.”
Omah Lay also touched on the deeply personal nature of his music, highlighting that his songs draw from his real-life experiences and vulnerabilities. He expressed his awareness that people worldwide are listening to his music and connecting with the authenticity of his lyrics, making it a powerful medium for self-expression and connection with his audience. He said, “If I can put my vulnerabilities in my song, then I can talk about them. My music is all about my real life experiences, and I know the world is listening to it.”
