Senator Ned Nwoko has dismissed claims that Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, was suspended over allegations of sexual harassment. He clarified that her suspension was due to misconduct in the Senate, not gender bias or victimization.
According to Nwoko, the issue began with a routine seat reallocation—a standard Senate practice. However, Natasha refused to comply and caused a disruption. Her refusal to move, combined with an outburst on the Senate floor, led to disciplinary action. Despite efforts to mediate, including personal outreach, she refused to apologize, leading to her suspension.
Nwoko further debunked the idea that misogyny played a role, stating that the Senate operates on principles of order and decorum, not gender discrimination. He also stressed that the sexual harassment claims were never a Senate matter but are before the courts. Given the timeline and circumstances, he believes Natasha’s case may not hold up legally.
