The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three people in connection with the alleged robbery and rape of certain Gateway ICT Polytechnic and Saapade students living in Ode Remo and Ipara in the state’s Remo North Local Government Area.
Taiwo Oredoyin, Taiwo Kuti, and Folorunsho Saheed were detained on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by the command Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola.
The brave armed robbers were allegedly apprehended on Monday, November 27, during a police stop and search in the Ode and Ipara Remo communities.
“The Ogun State Police Command has made significant progress in apprehending suspected armed robbers and recovering firearms and ammunition from three armed men who have invaded Ode Remo and Ipara, raped female students, and terrorised the tertiary institutions within that area,” according to the statement.
“At first, the suspects denied it, but a victim of their previous robbery identified one of the three-man gang of young men, terrifying Gateway Polytechnic.”
“In response to recent shooting incidents at Gateway Polytechnic, a proactive operation was conducted based on intelligence following a security summit organized by the Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha.”
“On November 27, 2023, the police conducted a stop-and-search operation in the Ode Remo and Ipara areas in collaboration with other security agencies.” During the operation, a motorcycle gang of three suspected armed young men was apprehended.
“The suspects attempted to elude arrest by using violent means, but were eventually apprehended.”
“The suspects arrested have been identified as Taiwo Oredoyin ‘M’ (27), Taiwo Kuti ‘M’ (35), and Folorunsho Saheed ‘M’ (36), all of whom are from Isara in Ogun State.” During a search, officers uncovered one locally made pistol with two live cartridges, as well as two Samsung phones, in their hands.
“As part of the preliminary investigation, the arrested suspects are currently being interrogated.” They will be sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a more in-depth and discreet investigation after this phase is completed.”
Recall that students at the college were recently subjected to robbery attacks, during which two of them were shot and others were allegedly raped.
It should be noted that armed robbers recently raided a private dormitory of Gateway ICT Polytechnic students in Saapade, where several students were robbed of their personal things and some female students were allegedly sexually harassed.
It was reported that some students were shot during the operation.
