Three Survive Ogun Tanker Accident

Late on Wednesday in the Leme area of Abeokuta South Local Government in Ogun State, a potentially catastrophic accident involving four vehicles narrowly spared the lives of at least three individuals.

According to FINDWHOSABI Metro, a tanker, en route to a fuel station, Sunny Yinka Oil and Gas, for a content delivery, was hit by a truck from behind. The impact caused the tanker to topple, spilling its contents onto the road. The collision was so forceful that it removed the head of the tanker, leading to another collision with a Toyota Tundra vehicle parked at the station, causing damage to its trunk.

An eyewitness, known as Aramide, noted that the truck was speeding and failed to notice the tanker’s maneuver to enter the fuel station, resulting in the collision.

The scene of the accident attracted local residents, some of whom took advantage of the situation to collect spilled diesel. The staff of the fuel station were seen transferring the remaining content into the station’s Underground Storage Tank, while confrontations among residents over the spilled fuel were also observed.

When questioned about the possibility of a fire outbreak due to the spilled diesel, one of the residents dismissed the concern, stating, “this is diesel, it cannot catch fire.”

Emergency response teams, including the Federal Road Safety Corps, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Police Force, and the Ogun State Fire Service, were present at the scene to assess the situation.

The spokesperson for the Ogun Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, confirmed the accident, attributing it to a loss of control. She reported that three people were involved in the accident, but fortunately, there were no injuries. The vehicles involved were a Toyota Camry (LND33FZ), an unregistered DAF truck, and an unregistered DAF tanker.
