Following a raid on their “Shawarma” joint base at the well-known Enerhen Junction in Warri, men from the Delta State Police Command have detained three adolescent suspects in armed robberies.
Idigbe Osreis (19) and Idigbe Perfect (16), two male gang members, reportedly had their hideouts raided.
Reporters learned that an undercover police officer who was in the area saw Gift Peace, one of the suspects, and followed him to the location where he was apprehended.
It was discovered that on September 29, 2023, SP Bolarinwa Alabi of Divisional Police Officer ‘B’ Division, Warri, received a distress call concerning an armed robbery operation at Giwamu Junction in Warri and dispatched his men to the scene.
The adolescent is said to have admitted during questioning that he has been robbing since he was seven years old and is a member of an armed robbery group that terrorizes Warri and its surroundings.
He led the detectives to their hiding places while mentioning other group members.
In a statement, the state police public relations officer, DSP Bright Edafe, claimed that the gang members opened fire from their unregistered bike as soon as they spotted the operatives.
According to the police spokesman, the agents “duly responded” to the gangsters’ aggressiveness.
He said that during the incident, one of the suspects—later identified as the gang’s leader—suffered gunshot wounds and was transferred to the hospital, where his death was ultimately determined to have occurred.
The police official said that items discovered from the suspects included the gang’s working tricycle, one single-barrel rifle that was built locally and was trimmed to size, along with three live rounds.
According to the PPRO, attempts are still being made to apprehend the evading gang members and seize more of their operational weapons.
