TIB Calls for Virtual Meeting Amid Police Invitation

Key members of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement have responded to a recent invitation from the police, suggesting a virtual meeting instead of an in-person gathering. The police, led by Commissioner Olanrewaju Ishola, requested a physical meeting to discuss national matters, including the upcoming October 1 protest. However, TIB’s legal team noted that many of their leaders were out of Lagos and could not attend on such short notice.

Concerns were raised by some insiders that the invitation might be a pretext for potential arrests. Despite these fears, police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin assured the public that the meeting was meant to be friendly, with no intentions of detaining any members. He confirmed that the protest, themed ‘FearlessInOctober,’ would be a central topic of discussion.

In their letter, TIB emphasized the practicality of a virtual meeting to ensure full participation. However, they remained open to rescheduling the physical meeting for early October if necessary, when all key members could be present. The planned protest aims to address Nigeria’s growing economic challenges, particularly inflation and the fuel crisis.
