President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to adopt better management skills to reduce their electricity bills amid rising energy costs. Speaking at his Ikoyi residence on Monday, Tinubu encouraged citizens to conserve power by switching off lights when not in use. “It’s not negative to learn to manage. You learn to control your electricity bill, switch off the light, let’s learn to manage,” he said.
Following Tinubu’s inauguration in May 2023, energy prices soared due to the removal of the petrol subsidy and increased electricity tariffs. Electricity rates for Band A customers rose significantly in April 2024, climbing from ₦66 to ₦225 per kilowatt-hour, drawing widespread criticism from Nigerians struggling with economic challenges.
Meanwhile, prominent South-South leader Chief Edwin Clark has called on Tinubu to ensure inclusivity in his appointments. Clark criticized the President for prioritizing loyalty over competence, urging him to embrace all Nigerians to address the nation’s challenges effectively. “Nigeria does not belong to him alone,” Clark emphasized.
