Tinubu Appoints Adebayo Benjamins-Laniyi as Head of FCT Women Affairs Secretariat

Abuja, October 16, 2023 – President Bola Tinubu has officially sanctioned the appointment of Mrs. Adebayo Benjamins-Laniyi as the Mandate Secretary for the newly established Women Affairs Secretariat under the Federal Capital Territory Administration. This development was disclosed through a statement issued by Anthony Ogunleye, the Chief Press Secretary of the FCT, in Abuja on Monday.

Mrs. Adebayo Benjamins-Laniyi’s selection comes in recognition of her “exemplary qualifications and dedication to public service,” as stated in the press release. With an impressive professional background spanning over 35 years as a communications consultant, social entrepreneur, international mentor, and environmentalist, Mrs. Benjamins-Laniyi is poised to bring a wealth of expertise to her new role.

Born in 1965 and originating from Ogun State, she received her secondary school education at Queens School Lagos and holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Ibadan, awarded in 1989. Her involvement in politics came to the fore in 2022 when she ran for a senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress. Notably, Mrs. Benjamins-Laniyi serves as the Grand Matron of “Hope Again for FCT Women in Politics,” where she actively encourages and mentors women in the realm of politics.

In addition to her political endeavors, Mrs. Benjamins-Laniyi is renowned for her contributions to society as an eminent compere and a motivational speaker of high repute. Her profound commitment to addressing social issues, particularly those affecting women and children, is evident through her commendable work in this domain.

Anthony Ogunleye, commenting on Mrs. Benjamins-Laniyi’s appointment, emphasized, “Her profound understanding of the political landscape and her adeptness at navigating complex policy challenges will undeniably contribute to the advancement of women’s rights and overall well-being within the Federal Capital Territory.”

This appointment further bolsters the formidable administrative team, led by the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, marking a significant step in the commitment to enhancing the status and prospects of women within the FCT.
