President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has addressed the incident during the Democracy Day parade at Eagles Square, Abuja, where he slipped while boarding the parade vehicle. The momentary misstep, which occurred on Wednesday, attracted significant attention and reactions both on and off social media.
Speaking later that evening at a dinner at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu clarified that he did not fall but rather performed a traditional gesture in celebration of Democracy Day. He humorously suggested that the onlookers might have confused his action with a popular dance move or a traditional Yoruba greeting.
Tinubu explained, “Earlier this morning, I had a swagger and it’s on social media. They were confused whether I was doing buga or babanriga. But it’s a day to celebrate democracy while doing ‘dobale’ for the day. I am a traditional Yoruba boy, I did my dobale.”
