President Bola Tinubu is set to attend the G-20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India, on a special invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two-day summit will focus on various global issues, and President Tinubu aims to leverage this platform to attract global capital and promote increased foreign direct investments in labor-intensive sectors of Nigeria’s economy.
During the summit, President Tinubu will participate in and deliver keynote addresses at both the Nigeria-India Presidential Roundtable and the Nigeria-India Business Conference. These engagements aim to strengthen bilateral economic, trade, and investment partnerships between Nigeria and India.
President Tinubu’s itinerary also includes bilateral meetings with leaders from various countries, representing both G-20 and non-G-20 nations, to explore opportunities for mutual benefit.
While Nigeria is not yet a member of the G-20, President Tinubu’s participation in the summit aligns with his objective to make Nigeria a member of the bloc. The Nigerian government has been engaged in consultations to assess the benefits and risks of G-20 membership.
Describing the G-20 as a significant economic power alliance, President Tinubu and his delegation, including key ministers, will work to promote Nigeria as an attractive investment destination and explore avenues for cooperation with other nations.
This trip to India marks President Tinubu’s sixth foreign destination since taking office, demonstrating his commitment to engaging with international partners and advancing Nigeria’s interests on the global stage. He is expected to return to Nigeria following the conclusion of the G-20 Leaders’ Summit.
