President Bola Tinubu announced the commencement of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, aiming to enhance trade and tourism. This 700km highway will improve access to production and marketing centers for 30 million people and provide significant employment opportunities during its construction.
Despite initial criticisms and the necessity of demolishing 750 houses, Tinubu assured compensation for affected property owners. He emphasized the project’s role in fostering economic development, uniting communities across nine states, and promoting new investment opportunities along the route.
The highway, which will be built with concrete pavement, represents a major step towards better connectivity and economic growth. Tinubu highlighted the project’s long-term benefits, likening it to similar successful ventures like Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. The government is adopting an EPC+F model to ensure quality work and attract private investment.
