President Bola Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Works to halt memos to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for projects needing further funding evaluation. This decision was announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, after a recent FEC meeting chaired by Tinubu.
The directive requires the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to collaborate with the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun. Their task is to refine the scope and financing of ongoing infrastructure projects highlighted in the memos, particularly those inherited from previous administrations, ensuring efficient resource use and phased completion.
The review does not affect the Lagos-Calabar highway and other projects approved under Tinubu’s administration, which do not face the same funding concerns. Additionally, the FEC has formed a committee, led by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, to revisit and potentially amend the Public Procurement Act to improve transparency and efficiency in government procurement.
