Tinubu Promises New Minimum Wage Legislation

In a national broadcast marking Democracy Day and the 25th anniversary of Nigeria’s unbroken democracy, President Bola Tinubu addressed the issue of minimum wage. Tinubu announced that an executive bill for a new national minimum wage would soon be sent to the National Assembly for approval. This announcement follows the submission of recommendations by a 37-member Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage.

Tinubu emphasized his administration’s commitment to negotiating in good faith with labor unions, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC). He assured that his government does not seek to oppress workers but rather to collaborate for fair resolutions.

The President reiterated his commitment to economic reforms aimed at ensuring fair compensation and economic opportunities for all Nigerians. He highlighted that cooperation and compromise are central to his administration’s policies, reinforcing the democratic values of dialogue and inclusivity.
