Tinubu to Mediate Ondo Leadership Crisis in Stakeholder Meeting

President Bola Tinubu is set to convene a crucial meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, this Friday afternoon to address the leadership crisis in Ondo State. The meeting is expected to include aides of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as well as key stakeholders, including members of the Ondo State House of Assembly.

Sources within the Presidential Villa have confirmed that the meeting, scheduled for 2 pm, aims to find a resolution to the ongoing political turmoil in the state. This development follows a plea from Ondo State Elders and Leaders, urging President Tinubu to intervene promptly and prevent a potential breakdown of law and order.

In a letter addressed to the President, the elders stressed the need for the state and national leaderships of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to provide guidance to those in government and ensure discipline within their ranks. The letter, signed by convener Reuben Fasontanti and secretary Bakkita Bello, called on the State House of Assembly to avoid impeaching either the Governor or his Deputy.

The state has experienced political uncertainty due to Governor Akeredolu’s extended medical leave in Germany. While Akeredolu returned to Nigeria in early September after a three-month absence, he has been operating from Ibadan, Oyo State. In his absence, Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa faces an impeachment process initiated by Ondo lawmakers over allegations of gross misconduct.

In a related development, President Tinubu has ordered the withdrawal of police personnel from the premises of the Ondo State House of Assembly in Akure. The outcome of the meeting is awaited as stakeholders seek a peaceful resolution to the political challenges in the state.
