President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his commitment to tackling corruption in Nigeria, describing it as harmful to society in all forms. Speaking during his first presidential media chat on Monday, Tinubu emphasized addressing the root causes of corruption as a key strategy. He linked corruption to issues such as lack of social amenities and financial insecurity, highlighting his decision to raise the minimum wage from ₦35,000 to ₦70,000 as a step toward curbing the problem.
The President also pointed to transparency as a critical tool in the fight against corruption. He explained that his administration regularly discloses government revenue figures and has allocated more resources to state and local governments to enhance public service delivery. Tinubu asserted that such measures create a system where individuals are less likely to resort to corrupt practices.
While acknowledging the challenge of eradicating corruption completely, Tinubu expressed optimism about reducing it significantly. “It’s very difficult to say you will eliminate it, but you can reduce it to the barest minimum by meeting the people’s needs,” he said, outlining his administration’s dedication to fostering accountability and improving living conditions.
