Tony Okocha, the former Rivers State coordinator of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign, has voiced his support for the inclusion of the immediate past governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet. Okocha emphasized that Wike deserves the ministerial slot as he actively aided the APC in winning the state during the presidential election, even when other prominent party members abandoned their support.
According to Okocha, neither Rotimi Amaechi nor Magnus Abe worked for Tinubu. He credited the victory in Rivers State to the missteps of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and specifically praised Wike’s strategic role. Okocha highlighted that Wike’s support, both in terms of resources and influence, played a crucial role in securing the APC’s success in the state.
The decision to endorse Wike for the ministerial slot was made at a meeting in Port Harcourt, where all APC members in the state unanimously supported the motion. Okocha recounted the motion and subsequent standing ovation, highlighting the appreciation for Wike’s contribution to the party’s victory. He concluded by asserting that Wike’s efforts accounted for approximately 70% or more of the success in securing Tinubu’s election in Rivers State.
