“Tragic Loss: Bandit Attack Claims Lives of Two Plateau Teachers, Sparks Youth Call for Open Grazing Ban”

Bandits launched an attack on a secondary school in Plateau state’s Riyom Local Government Area, resulting in the tragic deaths of two teachers. The victims, a newly married couple, were educators at the BECO Comprehensive Secondary school in the Kwi community.

The assault occurred during a school meeting to compile student results for an upcoming “Speech and Prize Giving Day.” Witnesses reported that the bandits, believed to be Fulani, entered the school grounds with their cattle. When asked by staff to remove their cattle, the bandits opened fire, killing the two teachers and injuring others, including the Vice Principal.

Moses Gwott, a community youth leader, and the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulders Association, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the attack and expressed concern over the escalation of violence. They called on authorities to implement an open grazing ban in the communities to prevent further incidents.

Fass, Mahanga, and Guava have become hubs for armed groups that carry out coordinated attacks on nearby villages, causing havoc. The community leaders urged the government to declare Fulani Militias as terrorists and take decisive action against them. They also highlighted the urgency of addressing the violent situation and securing the affected areas.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, for comments on the incident were unsuccessful as his phone was switched off. The tragic event sheds light on the pressing need for security measures and preventive actions in response to such attacks.
