The election petitions tribunal sitting in Awka, Anambra State, has affirmed the victory of Afam Ogene, the member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. This decision was made against the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Chukwuka Onyema, who had challenged Ogene’s victory in the election.
Afam Ogene, who contested under the Labour Party, was declared the winner of the February House of Representatives election in Ogbaru Federal Constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The election had been declared inconclusive by INEC, and a supplementary election held in the constituency.
The tribunal’s verdict upheld Ogene’s victory and declared him as the authentic winner. He expressed gratitude to his constituents and considered the verdict as a validation of the people’s will and the grace of God. Ogene promised to provide quality representation for his constituents and encouraged unity and peaceful politics in Ogbaru Federal Constituency.
Chukwuka Onyema, the PDP candidate, was urged to avoid further legal disputes and join in fostering the interest of Ogbaru’s constituents. Ogene also commended Arinze Awogu, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), for not taking the election dispute to the tribunal and respecting the people’s will.
