Tribunal Upholds Election of Kebbi State Governor Nasiru Idris

The Election Petitions Tribunal in Birnin Kebbi has affirmed the election of Nasiru Idris as the duly elected governor of Kebbi State. The tribunal dismissed the application filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which challenged the election won by Nasiru Idris of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his deputy, Abubakar Umar.

The three-member panel of the tribunal unanimously ruled that the PDP’s application lacked evidential value. They found no evidence to substantiate the PDP’s claims of forged certificates and election manipulation.

Justice Ofem Ofem, the tribunal’s chairman, stated, “We have carefully examined the exhibits and agreed that there was no overvoting and forged certificates as claimed by the petitioners. They could not substantiate their evidence, and it failed woefully.”

The PDP’s governorship candidate, Aminu Bande, and his party had filed a petition challenging the victory of Nasiru Idris and the APC in the Kebbi State governorship election.

The tribunal’s ruling validated the election results and upheld the victory of Nasiru Idris and his deputy, Abubakar Umar. The APC supporters celebrated the tribunal’s decision, while the PDP counsel indicated that the petitioners had the option to appeal the judgment at the Court of Appeal.

Governor Nasiru Idris, in his response to the judgment, expressed his commitment to development and called on his opponents to collaborate with him for the betterment of Kebbi State.
