According to the Lagos State Police Command, two suspects, Sunday Osagie and Ayodele Adeolu, were taken into custody for allegedly robbing Ekwutousi Philo, a skit creator.
The Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad unit made this revelation in a statement that was posted on Tuesday on its Facebook page.
In the statement, it was stated that on October 20, Philo filmed a video that has since gone viral in which she claimed to have been robbed by some cops in the Alapere neighborhood of Ketu, Lagos State.
The RRS squad saw the footage and immediately moved to apprehend Osagie, a former spy/mechanic, and his accomplice, 45-year-old Adeolu.
“Sunday Osagie, 31, who was caught on camera with the skit maker, has been arrested by the Decoy Team of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on the basis of a viral video in which she claims that she was robbed on October 20, 2023, along the Ketu-Alapere Highway by some policemen. Ayodele Adeolu, 45, has also been arrested alongside the suspect. Two vehicles have been recovered: a Toyota Yaris Verso with the registration number FST 656 JD and a ‘korope’ with the registration number LA 910 FST.
In May 2011, Sunday Osagie worked as a mechanic and spy for the Lagos State Government. After appearing before the Personnel Management Board (PMB), he was demoted and removed from the Lagos State Public Service in April 2023 for “absence from duty for six months without permission, illegal duties, and extortion of money from innocent citizens.”
The announcement further revealed that the Lagos Police Command had received the suspects and materials for additional investigation.
The statement added, “Commander Rapid Response Squad, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, has directed that the recovered vehicles and the suspects be transferred to the State Command for further investigations.”
