The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has made public the suspension of two of its prominent members, Boniface Aniebonam and Agbo Major.
Boniface Aniebonam, an original party founder, and Agbo Major, the National Publicity Secretary, have been suspended with immediate effect while an investigation is conducted by the party’s disciplinary committee.
In a statement signed by the acting National Chairman, Mallam Abba Kawu Alli, the suspension decision is a response to what is described as the unruly behavior of the party’s founding chairman. The party alleges that Aniebonam acted as if the political platform was his personal possession, unilaterally reversing decisions made by the National Working Committee and ratified by the National Executive Committee.
The statement highlights that the suspended members, including others who were previously suspended, are accused of engaging in activities that undermine the party’s unity and image, violating Article 39.2 (7) of the party’s constitution. These activities include potentially divisive actions and efforts to split the party.
The suspended members will have the opportunity to present their case before the disciplinary committee, following a fair hearing procedure outlined in the party’s constitution.
Alli emphasized the need for the press to accurately refer to the suspended individuals as ‘suspended’ members or chairmen of the party.
