Students in England will see an increase in university tuition fees next year, with costs rising to £9,535—the first hike in eight years.
Universities, which rely on tuition fees as a major income source, have pushed for this increase to help relieve financial pressures on their budgets.
In England, tuition fees are set by Westminster, whereas fees in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are decided by their respective devolved governments.
Additionally, starting next autumn, some students will be eligible to borrow more to cover living expenses. However, Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has urged universities to do more to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
